Is it possible for students to succeed without being aware of their strengths and weaknesses? Do students know how important it is to recognize their own abilities? Do they know how to use their intelligence to improve their understanding of a subject they have to study? Achieving academic goals is impossible without recognizing these strengths. As far as I'm concerned, the three strongest skills I possess are spatial, interpersonal, and linguistic intelligence, and using them helps me survive in the academic jungle. Spatial intelligence is one of the intelligences that help me learn better. Since I'm a visual type, it's helpful for me to draw pictures to visualize the material I'm reading about. Also, while studying, I like to underline important sentences. When I try to remember the lesson I read, I know exactly where the locations of the highlighted sentences are in the book. Next, spatial intelligence helps me be successful in organizing my documents and books. Without this ability, my folders would easily turn into a huge mess. To illustrate, one of my classmates called me yesterday, asking about a topic we discussed last semester. At that moment I knew exactly in which folder I had that information. Another intelligence that I possess is interpersonal intelligence, which is very important in relationships with others, especially during school. For me, it's easy to make new friends and connect with people. I have changed many schools so far and if I hadn't been able to adapt I would have given up. When I'm in class, surrounded by people I don't know well, I'm always ready to participate in the discussion. Furthermore, I have many friends. Since I am a good listener, they always come to me with their personal problems. For example, once when my friend was put on financial aid probation because she didn't have good grades, she called me and asked for help. Even though I couldn't help her materially, she said just talking to me made her feel better. I later convinced her to call her parents and explain her situation to them. Finally, linguistic intelligence is my strongest. This intelligence is very important for students living and studying in foreign countries. My ability to communicate across languages makes my university life easier and helps me be a better student.
