Topic > Symbolism of Meaning in Lord Of The... by William Golding
Golding uses Ralph to symbolize good nature in man; As a result, Golding uses Jack to symbolize the evil nature of man. Ralph is a civilized boy who fights evil, until he surrenders to it. Jack is an angry boy, who influences the boys on the island to become wild. The boys eventually go savage and kill Simon. At the end of the novel, they all leave the island and we see the impact of man's evil nature. The island is destroyed with two children murdered. How could children, so young, be capable of committing such actions? This is a question answered by Golding's main theme. There is an evil nature in all of humanity, and when it has the chance, it comes out and snatches away all the good
