we are afraid of several things in our lives, and one of these is the fear of emptiness, which causes people not to perceive reality. And just like Bub, Bub being able to visualize did not have the benefit of feeling the true reality of anything in his life including himself. The car is a good example, some people only see what a car looks like but others see what it is like under that huge piece of metal, and they are the ones who appreciate a car the most because they truly understand how it works. so let's move on from cars and talk about Bub, from begging Bub didn't put himself in Robert's shoes to understand that being blind is bad or good, he immediately thought about the prospect of being blind in films, as he said "his being the blind one bothered me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies the blind people moved slowly and never laughed. Sometimes they were led by blind dogs” (Carver 28), so this is a strong example of simple visualization rather than trying to understand the concept of being blind in more depth so when people use this method to understand others around them, they will start to fill the same thing about themselves as well low self-esteem “My wife finally took her eyes off the blind man and looked at me. I had a feeling she didn't like what she saw. I shrugged” (Carver 31) someone says something like that about themselves because they don't know what they are capable. when Bub said “she didn't like what she saw”. (31) it was more like I don't like what I see in myself, because he thinks Robert is better than him and he can't be like Robert. this makes people weaker every day when they think this way about themselves. and then they want to forget about it because... in the middle of the paper... it requires them to close their eyes and continue the drawing. "Close your eyes now," the blind man told me. I closed them just like he said. “Are they closed?” he said. "Do not confuse." “They're closed,” I said. “Keep them that way,” he said. Don't stop now. Draw. "So we continued. His fingers rode my fingers as my hand passed over the paper. It was unlike anything else in my life so far." (38)Bub heard and understood the meaning of the cathedral after being in Robert's position. And this pushes him to understand many things around him, because now he knows what it means to feel something rather than simply visualize it and he admits it by saying "My eyes were still closed. I was in my home, I knew it, but I didn't feel like I was into something." because now he feels what is inside him and not what surrounds him.
