The author's tone in this poem changes throughout the events that occur in the poem. For example, when Jesus is crucified, the author uses many negative tone words, such as; mocked, malicious, cruel and terrible. The use of these words communicates the pain and mourning of the scene in which the Lord suffers and dies on the cross. It also points to the humiliation of both Jesus and the cross during this part of the poem. Subsequently the cross becomes exalted and the tone changes becoming more positive. Some of the positive tone words include; exalted, glory and power. This shows how the cross went from humiliation to glory over the course of events. The author is trying to convey the sense of something heavenly and joyful with the positive tone towards the end that makes you want to tell others about what you have read about. While reading the poem, I was able to feel the emotions that the author intended the audience to feel. During the crucifixion and burial scenes, I felt great pain as death was described in detail along with the darkness and storm clouds that were
