Although men and women were represented as equal, in reality, the gender percentages in different careers were surprisingly skewed. Men also played a predominant role in the highest-paid careers, while women contributed the majority of the lowest-paid careers. Conformity under socialism was also a great Soviet ideal and was represented as such. In reality, however, citizens living under socialism did everything they could to be unique despite the consequences. Some things they did in secret, such as drawing pictures that did not represent Soviet ideals like Sis, or purchasing goods through the illegal black market. These actions expressed the uniqueness of people, which was not suffocated by the conformist representation of the State.
