Topic > Literary Analysis by Barbara Wels 'Short Story Gorgeous'

So the illusion of beauty is still possible and Gorgeous also shows emotion despite knowing that "she loves her remote job for so long and it makes her cry" . Therefore, the irony in this story still exists for Gorgeous to end up having a relationship with an artist. The personification of beauty continues as Wels notes: “Their relationship is the usual kind where beauty and appreciation are dancing partners.” When she becomes a "model", once again "stillness" is idealized as a mark of beauty. Consequently, even the humor in Wels' story turns tragic when Gorgeous realizes that beauty is manufactured and that the most beautiful are those who are.
