The group I had was made up of 7-8 year old girls, all sweet girls but obviously children can get into disagreements and it is our job as counselors to diffuse the situation. I remember this fight that these two girls had gotten into, and I had gone to one of the girls and said, "Can you please explain to me what happened that made you so angry at your friend?" She continued to tell me that this little girl she fought with was telling her that she doesn't have a father. The girl I spoke to told me she said this, and went on to tell me that this girl was lying because everyone has a father. I had to sit there and explain to her that yes, when you think about it, everyone has a father, but some people aren't lucky enough to have their father around all the time. Whether it was caused by the death, or the father simply wasn't involved in the child's life, or the parents had divorced, I had to explain to another little girl whose norm was to have her father around all the time, that sometimes people don't have that involvement from both
