I have wanted to become a counselor since my freshman year of high school and there are many specialties in the counseling field that I can focus on. I'm pretty sure I want to specialize in helping people with substance abuse and their families. I have always focused my studies, interests and work on things that will help me in this field and I have many qualities that help me improve myself in my eventual career. There are challenges when I am able to practice, such as what people perceive as a correct counseling style, challenges with my gender and race, and ultimately creating my own counseling style and plans. I am currently studying for my bachelor's degree in psychology and plan to finish my degree. ' graduated in 2014, I have faced few challenges with my plans so far because I feel I have prepared myself well for the future. I am part of the psychology club and participate in psychology experiments at school. I want to use everything I can while I'm in school to become the best at what I do. Where I work I call former students of my college and ask them for donations, before I ask them I have to earn their trust and this is also the basis for any relationship between consultant and patient. A big challenge I will face is deciding which side to take in a big debate about substance abuse counseling. Some people say that addiction is purely physical, while others disagree and believe that addiction is primarily psychological. Those who believe it is psychological believe that it usually results from abuse or, as Jane Adams (2003) thinks, excessive dependence on parents.
