Topic > Gilgamesh's Experiences: Enkidu's Loss and Gain

Friendship showed the reasons why Gilgamesh felt so much pain after Enkidu's death and why he did so much to try to get him back. Their friendship was also the main reason why Gilgamesh went from an evil tyrant to a great hero (Jackson Pg. 18). Their relationship was demonstrated when Enkidu went with Gilgamesh to kill Humbaba. He swore that he would be there when Gilgamesh needed his help. From reading it is clear that their friendship was not created falsely and was not a coincidence. They were in fact destined to become companions. I feel like Gilgamesh was very grateful to have even one friend who he trusted more than the others. So when he dies Gilgamesh is clearly devastated and protests the wrongness of it all (Jackson Pg.47). Anyone who has lost a loved one can recognize how unfair and incomprehensible death is, how uncompromising it is. Even at the end, Gilgamesh remains with his deceased brother until worms begin to appear from the corpse. Another vital component essential to a good life is the ability to relax and simply enjoy life. After Enkidu's death Gilgamesh can think of nothing but death. In Tablet He should go, eat food, spend time with his other loved ones and use his free time
