In our universe there are many galaxies, there are many solar systems and there are many planets. Our solar system is a collection of eight major planets bound in elliptical orbits around the sun. Of these eight magnificent planets, Mars, also known as the red planet, is the fourth closest planet to the Sun with a distance of 227 936 640 km (1.5 times that of Earth) and is also the second smallest planet. Mars is a terrestrial planet, composed mainly of rocks and metals. The iron oxide on its surface is responsible for the planet's red color. Mars has a mass of 6.42 x 1024 kg, a radius of 3.4 x 106 m, an orbit radius of 2.28 x 1011 m and an orbital period of 687 days. Although it has almost 10 times the mass of Earth, half the radius of Earth, almost double the radius of the orbit, and double the orbital period of the Earth. Although both planets have different surface areas, Mars has almost the same land surface area as Earth! It orbits the sun at a speed of 86 676 km/h, not as fast as the earth, which orbits at 107 218 km/h but still fast enough to take you from Antarctica to Peru 10 times in an hour! Due to its tilt of 25 degrees and a difference from Earth of 1.5 degrees, Mars has similar seasons to Earth! However, because the time it takes to orbit the sun is twice as long, its seasons are longer than Earth's. However, because Mars does not have a completely circular orbital motion (it moves in an elliptical motion), some seasons last longer than others. Therefore, the Northern Hemisphere experiences a longer spring and summer and shorter autumn and winter than the Southern Hemisphere. Unlike Earth, Mars has two moons: Phobos and Deimos. Since Mars has a gravity of 0.38 of...... middle of paper...... 2023 – Mars One. This mission was designed in hopes of starting human settlement on Mars. In this mission, a group of 4 selected people will be sent to Mars on a one-way trip. They will live on Mars and subsequent groups will be sent 2 years apart until 2033, when the human population on Mars is expected to reach 20 colonists. Over the years, scientists and astronomers have made numerous attempts to study Mars and other planets. It's really very interesting to look for life outside of our planet, and there will always be ambiguity in the universe that we're trying to discover. Every day we discover new things about the universe we are in and about other universes we vaguely know about. As technology develops, who knows, one day we may live on Mars or maybe even some other universe that we currently know nothing about.
