The rest of my vacation was spent carefully calculating when I could dive deeper into her troubled life. It was on the flight home that I had to say goodbye to him for the first time. I would eventually pick up the book on many other occasions feeling the need to be comforted by that imaginary boy who had reminded me of a person, myself. While our struggles weren't exactly carbon copies, I felt a connection to her character and to all who told their stories through the pages of this literary masterpiece. The problems of teenage life and the battle to fit into an ever-changing social group are a struggle that I believe everyone has faced at some point in their lives. But for now it was over and left me with a simple thought: “What do I do now?” I was certainly strongly affected by the text, but I was left with the nagging feeling as if it were a call to action; a request for change addressed directly to me. With the next school year quickly approaching and the heartbreaking terror I felt knowing that all my friends wouldn't be going to my school, I knew this was my opportunity to make this happen
