I find that I learn much better when I tell someone what I should learn. Even though my mother may not know much about the Russian Revolution or discrete mathematics, when I have to explain it to her she helps me learn. I view learning by talking more like learning by explaining or teaching. I usually talk to someone about the content I'm learning and try to teach or explain to them what I should know. This allows me to cognitively adjust my conversation strategies to make sure she understands what I'm trying to tell her.
