To use the electronic medical record effectively, the nurse must have technological knowledge in addition to clinical expertise (Linder, e.tal, 2007). This is a common barrier to electronic health record implementation. Initially, converting from paper to electronic charting is frustrating, especially for veteran nurses. Veteran nurses are used to routine, and documenting with pen and paper is the only documentation method they have ever experienced.
