Unlike cash, a credit card allows the consumer to make purchases without actually having the money to do so. They kind of borrow the money and pay it back later. “This false sense of income, combined with easy access to the Internet, can lead to compulsive and careless purchasing behavior, thus contributing to increased credit card debt.” (Basnet 2016) If someone doesn't pay back the amount of money they used the credit card for, they will eventually have to pay even more money. If someone has multiple credit cards, this can be an even bigger problem. Having cash on hand is a good way to avoid accumulating debt because an individual can only spend as much money as they physically have. They will also avoid having debts with a bank because the money spent was not borrowed.
