The first tip is that consideration should be of utmost concern. Consideration is the “extent to which the leader is attentive to subordinates, respects their ideas and feelings, and establishes mutual trust (Daft, 2014).” Given that this is a relationship-oriented behavior, I would suggest that becoming knowledgeable in consideration, as opposed to initiation or the extent to which a leader directs subordinates, would be a strong point for me personally. Since studies show that effective leaders can have a high level of consideration and a low level of initiating structure or a low level of consideration and a high level of initiating structure (Daft, 2014), one might assume that a relationship-oriented leader should strive to have a high level of consideration.
