But, due to demographic and technological pressures, the biophysical environment is degrading. This has been recognized and, fortunately, governments have begun to place restrictions on activities that cause environmental degradation. Since the 1960s, the activity of environmental movements has created awareness of various environmental issues. There is no agreement on the extent of the environmental impact of human activities and protective measures must be maintained to stop the destruction. So I don't think that humans have a higher standard of protection than other species because we are the main reasons why a huge amount of species disappear or become extinct. We are destroying their habitats, disturbing their food chains, and taking all the resources they need to survive. If anything they should be more protected by us because we are the ones who cause their end. This is why environmental law exists because it is a set of rules and regulations, which deal with the maintenance and protection of a country's natural environment. It provides the basis for measuring and apportioning responsibility in cases of environmental crimes and failure to comply with its provisions. An example that influenced me regarding environmental protection was when I read the book Silent Spring by Racheal Carson. The book explains how spraying chemicals to control insect populations can also kill birds that feed on dead or dying insects. That chemicals travel not only through the environment, but through food chains. Chemicals that don't kill completely can build up in fatty tissue, causing later medical problems, and can be passed down generationally from mothers to their young. It is a milestone in the development of the modern environmental movement. Carson's science
