The details and timing of Christ's second coming are unknown, all that is certainly known, because of the Scriptures, is that He will return and that His believers should be prepared. Throughout the New Testament there are many mentions of the second coming of Christ. The mentions are not as detailed as some people might like, but the truth is that the time and details of Christ's return remain unknown. The New Testament guarantees that Christ will return. Although the Bible does not say when the second coming will occur, it does mention some details that it will occur. Matthew 24:30 talks about how Christ's return will be glorious. In Revelation 1:7 it is emphasized that every eye will see him, including non-Christians. Christ will come one day, as indicated in 1 Corinthians 15:24 NIV when it says, “Then will come the end, when he will hand over the kingdom to God the Father, having destroyed all dominion and authority and power.” The verse shows that the Bible explicitly states that Christ will return, but does not say when. The second coming of Jesus will be unexpected, as mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6, like a thief in the night. As we read in the Apostles' Creed, Jesus will come to "judge the living and the dead". The dead will rise from their graves, the elect will rise with Jesus and the others will remain on earth. During His time on earth, when people asked Jesus about signs they could see to know about the second coming, He did not reinforce their questions, for example, He said: “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But to no one will it be given except the sign of the prophet Jonah” in Matthew 12:39 NIV.
