Research questions are formulated in a study to investigate variables, both independent and dependent variables, and the relationship between them. The research questions are classified into two, i.e. qualitative and quantitative research questions. Qualitative questions are used in qualitative research such as case studies, surveys and action research where the approach is non-numerical and analyzes special phenomena that occur in nature. Quantitative research, on the other hand, is more of a systematic approach with measurable numerical quantities that are analyzed to prove a hypothesis. Finally, the research hypothesis is approved or disapproved in relation to the results of the analysis (Laureate Online Education BV 2010). Hypotheses differ from research questions in that they are predictions that researchers make about variables and expected relationships between them (Creswell 2008). Hypotheses are primarily used in experimental exercises and are used to make comparisons between groups. The hypotheses are basically formulated in two forms; Null and directional hypothesis. The null hypotheses predict no relationship between groups. The alternative hypothesis is classified into two; directional hypothesis that predicts an expected outcome and non-directional hypotheses that make predictions without specifying differences and relationships due to a lack of past information that can be used to predict the differences. The difference between a hypothesis and a research question is that a hypothesis is a tentative statement that is more precise/specific and predicts an outcome. A research question is a general statement about a hypothesis (eNotes.com, Inc 2011). One hypothesis predicts an outcome...... middle of paper ......in the phenomena and the other is a correct or incorrect prediction of an experimental result that can be proven wrong or right through an analysis carried out during research.List of ReferencesCreswell, 2008.
