The prevalent and most positive communication approach uses a neutral buffering statement that politely guides the reader through goodwill to bad news. This indirect approach is perceived as personal and welcomed as pleasantly readable (Creelman, 2012). Both the email and the conference may have initially been addressed with a buffering statement. Starting from a process, conducting a reflection and the cause of communications may have been accepted positively. Discovering a better communication method, such as reframing the negative message, increases productivity and is favorably accepted (Whitworth, 2006). Building trust within communication is key.
