The elderly are easy targets for malicious people. Older adults need to be cautious when communicating with strangers or unfamiliar people who they do not talk to in person. It is easier for scammers to present a dishonest scheme against seniors they don't know or care about. When strangers come to the homes of the elderly, the elderly must avoid potential dangers or accidents. They cannot assume that an unknown person has their best interest at heart. Furthermore, the elderly should protect their properties because there are opportunists who try to take over their assets. When faced with financial abuse, older adults need to pay attention. Seniors have a duty to learn about some of the most common financial frauds and scams that affect them, from individuals and institutions. Scammers know that seniors may have difficulty saying “no” to their requests and may have some physical, mental and/or emotional limitations that may hinder their decision-making. Seniors, like any other person, can protect themselves by becoming better informed, speaking up and seeking help from others when needed. Younger people can help older people by first recognizing the growing problems older people face. They can also show how they appreciate their elders' contribution to society.
