It is a well-known fact that women have always worried about their weight. In fact, they care so much that in a recent survey conducted by NBC and the Meredith Corporation, women in the United States were found to worry more about weight than cancer (Davies). Do you fear fat cells more than mutated ones? It might not be that crazy. The national burden has skyrocketed in recent years, and much of the blame is placed on fast food and our sedentary lifestyles, but what if there was a more damaging factor? Most people don't research a diet before following it unless the research includes finding out the success rate. Living in an age of mass advertising and media bombardment, our gaze can easily be captured by flashy words and diet hype, leaving the truth buried beneath the desire to lose weight. Not only does it cover the truth, but it covers the solution to many social problems such as obesity and diet-related diseases. Misconceptions about nutrition are causing major problems today and fueling even the most worrisome health dangers. To overcome this dilemma it is necessary to acquire correct knowledge of nutrition, otherwise advertising diets and incorrect information will continue to influence the American diet; leaving people unhappy and overweight. Americans promote many different views on how we should eat: fat-free, low-fat, low-carb, Adkins-style, etc. But what is the right way? Misconceptions vary greatly and spread over a wide area. What was ingrained in people as children may be wrong in its assumptions about diet.
