Topic > Technology has made communication simple - 779

Since the dawn of our history, humanity has sought ways to communicate with each other. Whether using privative languages, cave paintings, early Native American writing, or the telephone, we have developed new and improved ways to communicate with each other. Technology has helped us improve our methods of communication today and should continue to improve in the future. The Internet offers some of the easiest ways to communicate today. Research conducted by the United States Department of Defense on computer networks in the late 1960s produced the Arpanet. Arpanet was the first version of what we know today as the Internet. Internet is available almost everywhere; we can find the Internet in cars, smartphones/media players and desktop computers, among others, with a number of disadvantages and advantages. Being so connected to the Internet is not always advantageous. Some people are so consumed by the Internet that they have forgotten how to interact with the people around them. In Rob Fishman's story "The Generation of Generation Q" he states, "With so much interconnectedness in the Facebook-YouTube-MySpace cohort and so much error in the world, Friedman wonders why our generation seems so complacent." (181) Many of these people lack social skills and some are even unaware of what they are missing. This is a growing problem among young Americans. They are so concerned with what happens on Facebook or Twitter that they seem oblivious to the world around them. The Internet, however, is a necessity in modern times despite its negative aspects. There have been times when people on the go needed to conduct business quickly, and up to this point there have been several expensive ways to achieve this, such as connecting to the Internet... middle of paper... search for a school assignment. Communicating with friends across the block or across the world has never been easier, which should allow people to share information. The Internet is a valuable and useful resource when used correctly and should save most users time and in some cases money. Works Cited Fishman, Rob. “Generation Q” The Norton Mix. Ed. Katie Hannah.
