This colossal gold and ivory statue of Athena dominated the interior of the Parthenon. “The statue appears to have been more than 40 feet tall, nearly 40 feet. The visible parts of its flesh were ivory, and its dress, armor, and jewelry were gold” (Nova, 2008). The sculpture was made of wood, covered with bronze and gold plates.
