The Sabbath The Sabbath has existed for hundreds and hundreds of years. It has been practiced by Jews on the sixth day of the week, Sabbath, since the days of Jesus' life and this is why you will not see many Jews on the Sabbath as Jesus and God explained that it is the day of rest. Even though God rested on the seventh day (Genesis, chapters 1-2) and not the sixth being Sunday in our calendar, but to explain it the Jewish week begins with Sunday, so Saturday is after all the last day of the week. Sabbath in Hebrew means rest, so the Jews followed the example of the gods and rested from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. Jews believe that the Sabbath is a day set aside for God to worship and rest. It is celebrated at home with a special family meal on Friday evening and then going to the synagogue to pray. Unnecessary work is greatly avoided along with daily work. another 39 rules established by the Jews to make Saturday a day of rest and to enforce these rules there are also the 10 commandments to make Saturday a very rigorous practice known throughout the world. The Pharisees were these powerful preachers who spread and taught the Jewish religion with their own altered views, which often ended up gaining them more control and power. The Pharisees had given completely opposite Sabbath teachings and knowledge. They were leading the Jews in the wrong direction. The rules for the Sabbath were very extravagant, like no Jew was allowed to do any kind of work or hobby related to work, nothing. If you were caught doing any work on the Sabbath day, you would be punished and sometimes even prosecuted....... middle of paper ......some Christians do not celebrate Holy Communion because they believe it is more important to love their neighbor and love Christ instead of receiving his body and blood, so they simply pray to him and worship him without Holy Communion, because as you can see in Mark chapter 12 verses 28-34 Jesus explains to a teacher of the law that the most important commandment is to love God with all your heart, love God with all your soul and love God with all your mind, love God with all your strength. While the second most important commandment is love your neighbor as you love yourself. This shows that the main thing God cares about is love for your neighbor and love for him by doing this will secure your place in heaven, like all Christians, go to church, worship God, love your neighbor and you will be accepted into the kingdom of God.
