Recently we have seen cases of law enforcement officers abusing their power as officers among the people and their society. If their purpose is to serve and protect, then why is nothing done when they no longer protect or serve their communities? Knowing the laws and your rights could play a crucial role in developing a peaceful society. Racism is not the only factor as, according to David Dante Troutt (2014), culture also plays a role in society. It is an emotional challenge for African Americans to face discrimination from their society and local law enforcement because they worry about their own safety and that of their families (Chaney and Robertson, 2013). In this era we are so adapted to being among different races and ethnicities, yet African Americans remain victims of racial discrimination (Chandy and Robertson, 2013).
