Introduction"I will be so happy when this semester is over because school is stressing me out to the max." This is a quote that many college students are familiar with and have probably said themselves. College can be a fun but also stressful time for students. They focus on making sure they attend classes and get good grades so they can succeed and hopefully succeed in the next chapter of their life. Researchers at Columbia University and the University of San Diego conducted a study to determine how stress negatively impacts academic performance and enrollment. They were surprised that nearly 25 percent of students surveyed in the National College Health Assessment said they got poor grades or dropped out of a class due to stress. (College Students Report Stress Affects Academic Performance, 2011). Lauren P Womble (2010) of the University of North Carolina states that college students have many obstacles to overcome to achieve their optimal academic performance. Womble also says that it takes more than studying to achieve a successful college career, and several stressors such as time management, financial problems, and some students having children can even pose a threat to students' academic performance. When conducting the current on stress levels that affect academic performance, the independent variable will be the stress level and the dependent variable will be the academic performance.Literature ReviewThe first piece of literature that will be summarized comes from an article published by the Center for study of student life in October 2011.
