The viewer hides behind the keyhole from members of the Third Reich as they rummage through the owner's belongings. The viewer knows that at any moment the soldiers could discover their hiding place. Once found, the viewer could be tortured, imprisoned, or even killed. It's a very effective piece of graphic design. The sense of suspense created by the image is palpable.
