Public PolicyIntroductionCalifornia is a large state with a growing population, resulting in increased use of resources, particularly water for human consumption, industrial uses, and for irrigation. However, water has become a scarce resource in California, and poor communities suffer the most from shortages. Therefore, through public policy, the state government sought a solution to the problem. As a result, it led to the adoption of the recycled water policy on February 3, 2009 (Martineau, 2013). The policy aims to provide the state with a reliable and clean water supply. Furthermore, the policy preserves the availability of fresh water sources by reducing drinking water consumption. Politics has three objectives. The first goal is to increase stormwater use by up to 500,000 acre feet by 2020 and by one million acre feet by 2030 (Heineman et al., 2001). Second, it plans to increase recycled water by at least one million acre feet by 2020 and two million acre feet by 2030. Third, by 2020, it aims to increase water conservation by 20%, especially for industrial and urban uses (Heineman et al., 2001). The methodology used for the execution and approval of this policy was systematic. Initially, the state consulted experts in different fields, such as water conservation experts, financial experts and other relevant stakeholders. It is important because it contributed to the drafting of the guidelines and rules of the policy. Furthermore, the analysis of the current problem will take place at this point. The second step was to hold a referendum in which the public will approve the policy for the state to legalize it. At this stage the costs of the problem will be assessed.
