Married with Children The television series Married... with Children began in late 1987 and had a schedule of thirteen shows. It was born from the minds of two directors named Amanda Bearse and Gerry Cohen. Their goal was to propose a comedy series different from others of the recent past. The series was recorded in Sony Studios and raised many controversial issues. For example, the third season of the show is when the show gained the most fame. A woman named Terry Rakolta, who lived in Michigan, had written to the studio that the show was unsuitable for public television and should be suspended indefinitely. As anyone can imagine, this was the turning point of a slowly improving show. The show attracted attention from many aspects of life. Critics wrote in newspapers and the public spoke loudly. In the end, this was, hands down, the best thing that could have happened to the show. Ratings increased considerably and a comedy sitcom was born. Before all this happened, the two directors held auditions in which they selected the following characters: Ed O'Neill in the role of Al Bundy, Katey Sagal in the role of Peggy Bundy, Amanda Bearse in the role of Marcy Darcy, David Garrison in role of Steve Rhodes, Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy, David Fastino as Bud Bundy and Ted McGinley as Jefferson Darcy. There were also a few other characters involved which made the show more productive. The location of the setting is located at Sony Studios. It is described as a normal looking house. For example, on the set there is a sofa in front of the television and a kitchen where you don't cook too much. The house is located at 9764 Jeopardy Lane and is where the majority of the show takes place. There are still other locations where the show takes place. For example, there is the shoe shop where Al works and the garage where the NO'MAAM meetings take place. Al and Peg's room is also shown to show how the two are not close to each other. In all sitcoms there is a basic unifying situation. This is a common theme that you can expect to be said or done. This can be seen in this show as follows: The Bundys are a stereotypical American family. Al Bundy is a shoe salesman who continually works to revive the fame and fortune of high school football. Peggy, a petite red-haired girl, brings fear into Al's eyes whenever she feels intimate with him or... middle of paper... Boy, the executives weren't happy. Leavitt said one thing executives said was, “make these people obviously love each other. They show that they care more about their children." Leavitt responded by saying, "You know, you're the reason television sucks." After that the show became a success anyway. There was also an article published in the Los Angeles Times, stating the end of the show's 11-year run. The article states that the reason they canceled the series was declining ratings versus rising production costs. With Al Bundy receiving more than five hundred thousand dollars a show and the salaries of the rest of the cast skyrocketing, Fox could not afford the fees. Bibliography: Television program3.
