and Mrs. Hossack had talked about separating the year before. During the late 1800s and early 1900s divorce was highly frowned upon. Religious people viewed this as breaking a promise made to God after standing before Him promising to love one another "for better or for worse." The murder may have been committed by someone from Mrs. Hossack's side of the family because if the separation had occurred, she would not have had much of the land they once shared. Today, divorce is more socially acceptable. Now it seems like no one can keep a marriage together. They just have the mindset that they can divorce their spouse and find a new one later.
