Christian Perspectives on Personal, Social, and Global IssuesStatement of Purpose====================Through it all report I intend to answer the following question: "Can euthanasia be justified in today's society?". I intend to view the hospice movement as an alternative to euthanasia. I will draw a conclusion, taking all opinions into consideration, whether euthanasia is wrong or the right way to take. What is euthanasia?================== =a) I) The word Euthanasia originates from the Greek words "Eu" which means good, and "Thanatos" which means death. Doing so literally translates into a good death. Today, however, the word means "The intentional termination of life by another at the person's explicit request to die." The term euthanasia normally implies that the person who wishes to commit suicide must be the initiator of the act. However, some people think that euthanasia involves both voluntary and involuntary termination of life. Like many other moral/ethical/religious terms, “euthanasia” has many meanings. The result of this is mass confusion. It is important to distinguish a number of loosely related terms: «Passive euthanasiaHastening a person's death by altering some form of support and letting nature take its course. For example:v Remove life support machinery (e.g. turn off a ventilator)v Stop medical procedures, vital medications, etc.v Withhold food and water and allow the person to dehydrate or starvev Not perform CPR (cardiac breathing) pulmonary) and allow a person, whose heart has stopped, to die. «Active euthanasiaThis... in the center of the card... as wicked as we think it is, it would not allow one to kill oneself, and it would not be in the Bible. If God wanted us to live by His rules, why didn't He just physically allow us to break His rules? He gave us the power to exploit his rules and we did. If He is the one who creates illnesses and diseases that kill people, what is wrong with euthanasia? After all, if God had not created the problem, the radical solution of euthanasia would not be a problem. It is God who imposes euthanasia by imposing his terminal illnesses on people, if he didn't have the evil streak in him that kills people then we wouldn't be talking about euthanasia at all.
