From its primitive days it was simply an orchard. There is not the slightest sign that it will ever become the most influential place in the world for technological innovation. Surely there was a man who had another vision of what the place could be. He did everything he could to pay respect to his disadvantaged university. His hard work and restless nature helped lay the foundation for the greater region to impact the lives of many. With the help of other brilliant men, they led the way for corporate prosperity in an economic surge that has never since been surpassed, but also came to a decline when things were at their all-time high. Before the region became known as the famous center of all things technology, Silicon Valley was a well-tended orchard that stretched for a couple of miles. Although it was located near Stanford University, the tract of land had no sign of becoming the revolutionary site recognized around the world today. With the help of Stanford University's brightest professors and their students, Silicon Valley was created and became known as the world's place of technological innovation. The professor recognized as the father of Silicon Valley is Frederick Terman. Before shaping the world's center of technology and engineering, Terman had to make Stanford University a respectful and prestigious place in the fields of technology and engineering. He achieved this through a policy he called “sleepless of excellence, under which Stanford would pay the highest salaries to attract outstanding faculty…and promising graduate students (Narins np).” His efforts proved successful and the University flourished under his leadership.
