The Inbetween, with some negative connotations referring to the unknown, was where Susie described her new home. However, in the novel's conclusion he speaks of his home as Heaven, which is thought of as the place where all good souls go, above the sky and the big world. It can be inferred that Susie has moved on and has finally let go of all the atrocities of the past and learned to love her new home. Her emotions and missing her home and familiarity, as well as her constant desire to impose surveillance on her family and friends demonstrate that she cares and would stop at nothing to make sure everything on Earth is okay. His love for those on Earth never fades, but instead he learns to manage his emotions and curiosity by coming to terms with his death and letting go of events on Earth that he can do nothing about. Ultimately, Susie Salmon evolves into a more mature individual than at the beginning of the novel, finding closure regarding her improper murder and thus finding solace and solace.
