I felt so nervous because everyone around me was talking but I couldn't understand a word that came out of their mouths. When my mother dropped me off at school that morning, I almost started to cry. I had a certain feeling of loneliness, as if there was no one to relate to. As a non-English speaker, I was placed in the ESOL program at school, where I could follow a pace that suited me. Making friends became a big challenge because I was unable to communicate with my peers; the reason I was always excited about returning home to my family, the only people I could communicate effectively with in French. As time went by, communication with my peers became less complicated because I could speak the English language more. By being able to learn English over the course of four months and speak it fluently, I begin to make real connections with my peers. I became best friends with a girl named Jazmin Ward and made new friends over time. Life started to do a little more for me at this point. I didn't feel so alone anymore. I also liked going to school more than I liked being at home with my parents
