Sophistication and Elegance: The True Meaning of Beauty Three words come to mind when you see the epitome of Hollywood A-Lists: sophistication, style and confidence. While the media will always present celebrities as sex symbols, tasteful images have now become a norm in today's society. A woman's beauty is now represented in other ways: fully dressed and confident. It's evident now even as I look around campus. Girls who are poised and classy don't strut around in t-shirts and miniskirts. It's all a matter of look. A woman is no longer sexy because she dresses in almost nothing: she is sexy because she has character. Whether it's mystery, humor, certainty, charm or intelligence, women are more attractive for who they are rather than how they look. Today's society is progressing towards a refined society, a move that is currently influencing American youth. Mischa Barton and Kate Hudson, two famous celebrities, are now part of the new face of America. They are both A-list stars on the cover of two popular magazines. Neither Mischa nor Kate are blandly portrayed. They represent the essence of what a real woman is. Mischa, for example, is wearing a trendy outfit, ready, perhaps, for a day of shopping. She has an air of mystery about her that says, "I'm ready for anything." Kate, on the other hand, seems playful and fun; the kind of girl you would want to take dancing. They are attractive because they give off a vibe, something that cannot be conveyed through flashy clothing. So, what kind of message do women like Mischa Barton and Kate Hudson send to young Americans? The media is slowly convincing girls to hide... in the middle of the paper... which is currently taking over our culture. After all, "the most attractive woman is the one who is confident, the one who stands out and is smarter than the lie" (Jost).Works CitedAbout-Face. 2006.
