IntroductionInformation retrieval (IR) is about representing, retrieving from storage, and organizing information. Information should be easily accessible. The user will be more interested in easy-to-access information. The information retrieval process involves searching capabilities for documents, information within documents, and metadata about documents, as well as searching in relational databases and the World Wide Web. According to (Shing Ping Tucker, 2008), the Electronic commerce is a rapidly growing segment on the Internet. The future of economic competitiveness for most businesses depends on entering and actively participating in e-commerce. Furthermore, Dorner & Curtis, 2003 believe that a common user interface replaces the multiple interfaces present between individual electronic library resources, reducing the time and effort spent by the user both in searching and learning to use a vast range of databases. While the primary function of a common user interface is to simplify the search process, such products can be holistic solutions designed to address requirements other than search, such as user authentication and site branding. According to Ahmed et al., 2007, user interface design has received limited attention from IR researchers. There is a need to adopt human-computer interaction (HCI) techniques in IR interface designs, but this is an issue that has not yet been fully recognized by commercial database vendors and distributors.
