In my opinion, I think it is important for modern humans to read the text because it contains life lessons that can be gained by reading a text centuries ago. The text shows contemporary humans that joy, sadness, and loss existed long before they were born. For example, the pleasure Gilgamesh felt when he defeated the demon Humbaba. The feeling he felt when he lost his dearest friend Enkidu (pg.132). The epic also teaches people to face the challenges that lie ahead. Gilgamesh was challenged by Utanapishtim to go seven days and seven nights without sleep or food; he failed but did not give up. Instead he went straight to the source, the ocean floor, to restore the youth of the old men of Uruk. Gilgamesh also faced a moral decision when he was about to kill Humbaba and the demon begged for mercy. The text shows that no matter how much time has changed, human beings will have the same fundamental issues and experiences, i.e. loss, love, joy and
