Religion-wise, it is a Muslim-based country, but due to European aid, Orthodox Christianity has been greatly influenced. We see a social clash within the people who want to identify only with the Middle East but according to their president Giorgi Margvelashvili “We really connect the Caspian area, the Asian area, with the Black Sea area, with the European. And we have been doing it for centuries” (A Conversation With Giorgi Margvelashvili, 2015). I believe that because Georgia is trying so hard to become part of the First World, it is failing to solve its nation's social problems. The U.S. Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor reports: “Significant deficiencies in the administration of justice, including pressure on the judiciary in select cases, questionable judicial appointments, inconsistent government responses to violence or abuse, incomplete investigations, prosecution premature suspicion, and inappropriate use of pre-trial detention; and insufficient government efforts to combat social discrimination against women, members of ethnic, religious and sexual minorities, and people with disabilities.” For a country that is trying to identify with the West, it fails to truly respect these international social norms established by the First World. This is why I believe that despite it being considered Second World you can see the gray area that it can be considered
