Topic > Social Symbolism in Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron"
Vonnegut sees this as a terrible idea, as by weakening members of society to achieve equality rather than attempting to improve the weakest links, this will weaken society and will lead to its inevitable crash. Vonnegut uses the story to underline his opinions on the piece and uses each of the story's few characters to make a generalization towards the types of people who would exist in an authoritarian environment like the one he created for this.
