Louis Pasteur is considered by many to be the foremost medical mind of his time and pioneered many medical practices that are still in use to this day. Louis Pasteur is definitely one of the 100 most influential people in the world because of his experiments on germ theory, Louis Pasteur was born in Dole, France in 1822. He was the son of a poor tanner, so growing up his social status was Low. However, he was able to go to school. At first, however, he didn't study science, he studied mathematics. He then studied science in eastern France when he was in college, and his professor even said he was “mediocre at chemistry” (Hart). After receiving his doctorate in 1847, however, he was quick to prove his professor completely wrong. His research on the isomers of tartaric acid made his name famous throughout the world at the age of just 26. Louis Pasteur was very important to the world of science and medicine. However, he began his career working with liquids, such as beer and wine. Early in his career, his help was asked by a man named Bigo, who was a brewer with a problem. Many of King 3Bigo's beers had gone sour and he didn't know why, so Pasteur began to do some research. According to www.historylearningsite.co.uk, after observing the beer, he discovered that there were tiny organisms in the liquid and determined that those microbes were responsible for the sourness of the beer. He continued this research with other liquids beyond just beer, such as wine, milk, and vinegar. Regardless of the... middle of the paper... lower rate of the Pasteur vaccine. The long-term effects that Pasteur had on the world are many. From rabies vaccination to new and improved antiseptic practices in surgery, Pasteur left an indelible mark on the history of medicine. He also left an indelible mark on France, his native country, and is considered one of "humanity's greatest benefactors" (Access Excellence). King 4Because of his impact on the medical community one cannot help but rank Louis Pasteur at or near the top when considering the 100 most influential people in history. He changed the way people think about germs and disease, revolutionized antiseptic practices, and developed a vaccine to prevent the painful and deadly disease rabies. Louis Pasteur will continue to have an impact on modern life long after his death, which is why he is the most important medical mind ever.
