Probationary is a more accurate assessment of an employee's abilities, desire and work ethic in the actual work setting. While pre-employment tests and evaluations are useful indicators of an employee's performance, there is nothing better than job evaluation. My new hire probationary period will last approximately 6 months and will give both me and my supervisor the opportunity to review the new employee's behavior and decide whether or not this person has performed up to the organization's standards. During this probationary period certain rights and benefits provided to permanent employees will not be provided to the new hire and I will also carry out a performance evaluation once every two months to update the new employee on their current performance and how they are measuring up to organization standards. These performance reviews/assessments will act as a guide and learning tool for both the employer and the new employee. The purpose of this assessment is to inform and document what is going well and what can be improved in accordance with the organization's goals and needs. This gives the employee the opportunity to correct or improve any behavior that is not satisfactory before it is too late and also provides the employer with detailed information on how the employee is behaving. It also reduces the occurrence of thefts. Shirking is a term used to refer to members of an organization who potentially do not meet the organization's acceptable (basic) standards.
