Topic > Enterprise-Wide Analytics Technology Challenges

Most people work in an environment where their department has special forms or procedures that impact the operations of another department within the organization. For example, a receiving employee can receive products and fill out the paperwork needed to forward billing to the finance department. Then the finance department would do what they need to do to pass on their information to the next level of the organization. Well, today many companies are turning to “enterprise analytics technology” to streamline the processes and steps an organization goes through when conducting business. Business analytics is simply a way for enterprise-sized companies to capture business-critical information and make it visible to the entire organization. Information Technology (2001) Today in many companies the internal operations of the company are carried out in a way in which internal departments are treated as individual activities, somewhat like those of a silo or a tower autonomous and operating according to its own controls and processes. Business analytics is a way for the company to connect separate business towers and make critical business information available to everyone. In many cases the information tracked is linked to ongoing transactions. Transaction is the lifeblood of any business, so it is critical to ensure not only that it is processed in the most timely manner possible, but that transaction information is accurate across the organization. Additionally, business analytics must enable information to be easily visualized and readable for the people who need to make the critical business decisions that can lead to the success or failure of an organization. Business analytics gives executives the ability to see what is happening within the organization at any time. This is the kind of real-time insight executives need to keep their companies competitive in the workplace. However, in a utopian business, the business intelligence tool used would provide full functionality and meet the needs perfectly. Today's businesses are anything but utopian. When an organization considers implementing a business intelligence tool, there can be many factors that will complicate its implementation. Often challenges, such as whether the application is intuitive or not, will play the biggest role in the deployment.
