The American Revolution between 1820 and 1840 changed the landscape of small towns, counties, and large cities, including Lowell Massachusetts, for the future. Population growth steadily advanced due to the increase in immigrants, and increased local birth rates contributed to the population increase. Likewise, life in small towns was changing dramatically due to greatly improved infrastructure. For generations and generations, agriculture has in most cases been the main source of income for small towns. The vast majority of land was passed down in families from parents to children to grandchildren. Seasonal income could provide income for their families and hired field workers. The income was enough for families to provide food and shelter for their loved ones and enough to sustain them until the next harvest season. Therefore, the American Revolution was a great shock to most people and in this essay I will discuss how the American Industrial Revolution was a result of advanced transportation and communication systems, the growth of manufacturing technology, and the increase in population.
