Many of the decrees limited the king's power, which the royalists did not accept. Many members of the Third Estate became angry with the King, who forced him to attempt to flee France with his family. Unfortunately the escape didn't work. King Louis XVI and his family were forcibly returned to Paris. Along with the move of the National Assembly, Paris became the new center of the revolution. These reforms not only affected the nobles, but also affected the status of the clergy in France. The church reform took away all the lands owned by the church and also forced members of the clergy to swear allegiance to the revolution.
