How technology has had a positive impact on defense society As the opposition improves technology, there has also come a call for more defense measures improve. For example, during World War II Germany was developing enormous amounts of war machinery that was bigger and better than ours. The invention of radar played a significant role in defending against these odds. Radar was fully developed in 1942 and was hugely instrumental in the defense of Britain against German bombers. This technology was developed into anti-ship and submarine radar by the US Navy, which has been used successfully ever since. The U.S. Army also used radar, initially to aim searchlights so the soldier aiming the gun could see where to shoot, but the systems evolved into fire-control radars that aimed weapons automatically. When the United States was attacked by the Japanese in 1941, everyone in North America became concerned about the defense of the homeland and an imminent attack, society asked for protection. The Japanese had a large navy very capable of performing just this task. As the war intensified it was clear that the United States needed to develop better, faster technology. In the skies, Japanese planes were destroying American planes. The company was once again relying on technology to find a match for zero, and the F4U Corsair was born. This had a positive effect on society as it created a more secure feeling of defense. citizens were still demanding a quick end to the war, so the defense department set to work on the atomic bomb, obviously the results would change the world forever. As Americans felt safer with new defense technology, a new danger developed in Russia, thus it was the beginning of the Cold War, perhaps the worst case scenario of all. As the world entered the 1950s, it was common to see bomb shelters in many backyards. Propaganda was at its peak and fear spread throughout the world. Regardless, both countries felt confident in the latter. The company once again demanded that the most advanced technology be there only for defense. The United States began to develop spying techniques as did the Russians to keep an eye on each other's progress, this seemed to be the only way to keep power in balance.
