Timothy HuiCORC 3208: Comparative Studies Across Cultures and TransformationProf. MitrovicNLN Warriors Final PaperMay 23, 2014For my final paper I will write about the people and community that make up my church in Chinatown (Lower East Side), Manhattan. The exact address is 136 Henry Street, New York. The church is called New Life Now and is a Baptist Christian church. Our team name is called New Life Now Warriors. Our church's mission statement on their website states, "New Life Now's mission statement is for all to receive, learn, live, and share the joy of new life in a personal relationship in Jesus Christ." The Bible verse we have as our motto reads: “I have given strength to a warrior; I exalted a young man among the people. Psalm 89:19” In this church, they promote life lessons on how to live a happier life. We are a predominantly Asian and 30% Black community thanks to our pastor coaches' basketball team. I will be speaking primarily through the perspective of the volleyball team and the New Life Now staff. The age range of the volleyball and basketball team is 13 to 22 years old, while the staff is 27 to 60 years old. Long story short, I entered the church through the volleyball team when Charlie, the "CEO" of the team, invited the players to come in and try out. During that time, I had just started playing volleyball and was looking forward to playing wherever I could. About a year and a half later I was promoted to be one of the coaches of the volleyball program. I will compare my experiences as a team member to those as one of the coaches. As well as talking about the new players versus the “veterans” of the team and how they influence each other. There are several paths you could... middle of paper... ily, and this would never have been possible without the support of New Life Now Church. As for the staff at New Life Now, they are the most helpful and open-minded people I have ever met. I will talk about the responsibilities each member has and how this affects the Church as a whole. I found out about Wendy Ng's community that she is studying. He chose to write about his work in a pediatrics practice. She explains that it feels like a full circle for her because she was once a loyal patient there when she was much younger. The place is called Manhattan Pediatric Associates and is located at 217 Grand Street. Wendy says that in her article she will compare what he was like as a patient and as a person behind the counter. This is comparable to my situation at New Life Now because I was also a “customer” in the volleyball program and now I am an “employer”.”
