The media, in particular, through their incessant reporting on the war on drugs, have played the role of “vehicles for competitive spectacle and source of news” (Rutherford, 2000, p . 274). To clarify, the mandate of these media outlets is to provide the public with updates on the issues of greatest concern and, in the process, help them make sound decisions that would benefit the majority of society. However, their reporting may have been tainted by the desire for publicity inherent in the pursuit of profit and/or public dominance. However, the media is still the most influential actor in influencing public opinion. In fact, their pervasiveness has become the nagging voice that constantly reminds the government of its responsibilities to the government
