Having the support of others can encourage a person to work harder to achieve their goal. For example, during high school most students never consider how essential their guidance counselors are until their senior year of high school. Determining plans after high school can become stressful and requires additional guidance. In addition to being the backbone for students reaching higher education, the work of guidance counselors must equip students to excel in high school and beyond. This includes selecting classes that best suit a student's academic abilities, providing scholarship information, helping with college searches, and offering volunteer opportunities. Likewise, guidance counselors also have an obligation to meet the needs of their students and encourage them to work harder for themselves. They constantly remind students of deadlines; via e-mail, telephone calls and public announcements on the intercom.
