Topic > Compare and Contrast European and Japanese Feudalism

Confucius in his philosophical proclamations emphasized the need for individuals to always uphold morality in their societies. Likewise, if individuals wanted to live in peaceful coexistence with each other in their societies, then they had to make sure they respected the elders in their environment and, above all, the leaders who ensured that individuals lived in societies that were orderly and self-fulfilling. Subsequently, Japan's leaders and samurai warriors made sure to uphold their moral obligations within their society. This was evident in the way these individuals worked to ensure that farmers and villagers in their localities were regularly protected from any harm that might befall them. As a sign of gratitude, the villagers and farmers themselves had to reciprocate the contributions of their leaders and warriors in their societies by respecting their leaders and warriors. In addition to this, the protected people had to elicit their gratitude by ensuring that they paid taxes in due time and in the right proportions to facilitate the ease with which their leaders managed to regulate operations in their areas of interest.
