My family and I attend Willow Church of the Nazarene and have been members for thirteen years. I have been active in my youth group since I was in seventh grade and have loved it ever since. I participated in many camps and activities with my youth group. I am close to all the members of my youth group and consider some of them like family. Many of my friends from school belong to the same youth group and are very involved in the community. The symbol of the cross is extremely significant to me. I chose to include a photo of myself in my marching band uniform. I have been a member of the Willow Marching Band since my freshman year. I have lettered every year in band so far and have played multiple instruments throughout high school. I took piano lessons when I was younger, so this photo illustrates not only my involvement in the band, but also my musical interests, abilities, and school pride. I enjoy marching at all home football games and performing in many band competitions each year. I used a photo from when I was young and also participated in local rodeos. My younger brother and I sometimes rode the mechanical bull while attending these rodeos, but the sheep were the only real animals our mother allowed us to ride. I have always enjoyed rodeos because they have fascinated me since I was little. Riding sheep and participating in rodeos was something we enjoyed doing with our grandfather. My grandfather passed away from cancer when I was eight years old and I have many fond memories of going to rodeos with him. Sometimes we drove two hours just to ride the sheep. This photo symbolizes a large part of my childhood. The photo of me in the back of my dad's truck shows the countless hours I spent hunting with my dad. We go turkey and deer hunting every year on our hunting property in Iowa. I am a more experienced turkey hunter than a deer hunter and I would say I enjoy turkey hunting more. However, hunting has been a significant part of my life since I was old enough to hold a gun, in part because of the fond memories I have of time spent with my family during deer season. It's a hobby I've gradually gotten better at over the years, but I've always enjoyed it just the same. My grandfather, father and uncle taught me a lot about hunting and it is a way my family loves to spend time together. The photo of me in my Boy Scout uniform represents the years I spent in the Scouts and everything I accomplished during this time. I joined scouts in kindergarten and became an Eagle Scout earlier this year. I attended many scout camps and camps and earned double the number of merit badges required to receive my Eagle Scout Award. My father was an Eagle Scout and my younger brother is working towards it. You could say that Scouting runs in the family. The last photo I chose is of me reading the newspaper as a child..
